In today’s growing and changing society, technology continues to advance. It’s important that teachers and students keep up with these changes, which involves the evolution of technology in the classroom. When I was in elementary school, we had old PC computers that we used occasionally. Nowadays, classrooms are filled with smartboards and chromebooks, both of which are used on a daily basis. As technology changes over time, teachers and students are influenced to continue using the newest technology to advance childrens’ learning.

The ISTE is a great organization that allows teachers, educators, and students to find community through technology use worldwide. There are different standards that apply to certain groups. Some examples of these groups are teachers, students, and educational leaders. One specific standard that is meaningful to me is the Empowered Learner standard under the student group. I like this one because I feel empowered as a student that I get to attend such an incredible university like Florida State and have the opportunity to interact with and learn about new technology everyday. One standard that that seems outside of my current skill set is Innovative Designer. I don't think of myself as too artistic or creative, so I would love to improve my design skills and creativity so that I can learn new ways to approach situation and find solutions.

A digital native is a young person who grew up with highly advanced technology. Digital natives tend to be able to figure out new technologies faster than a digital immigrant just because they had the advantage of growing up with it. I do consider myself a digital native because I grew up with newer forms of technology and I can adapt to them more easily than my parents, who are digital immigrants. I agree with the label because most generation Z’s (such as myself) tend to develop technological skills faster. There are differences between how a digital native and a digital immigrant interact with technology. Generation Z is know for always being on their cell phones, and tend to use it more for social interaction than just calling (what a cell phone is for). A digital immigrant like my parent doesn't tend to use their cell phones in similar ways; for example, my mom thinks cell phones should only be used for calling because she doesn't understand how advanced cell phones are nowadays and how they have more functions other than just for phone calls. This has impacted my learning experience because I can use my knowledge of the versatility of technology to allow myself to think more creatively. By the time I have students, I anticipate them to be more skilled at using the latest technology that I would be. This was the situation I was in growing up (where I was more skilled at using technology than my teachers), so I expect to see similar themes.
