As a Student, I use Microsoft word for every essay, blog, or writing of any kind. MS Word makes keeping track of my writings easy and organized. For example, I have different folders for different academic courses, and within each folder has all of my writings for that class. I have seen my teachers use MS Word my whole life, from Elementary School to College. Starting in High School, my assignments would be posted online in Microsoft Word Documents, and I would submit by work online as a Microsoft Word Document.
I don’t have much experience with copyright and fair use of materials, but I’m excited to learn more about it in this course. The only experience I’ve had with copyright is on YouTube; on my YouTube channel, I don't use music that isn't mine on my videos. As a teacher, I want to encourage all of my students to create their own original work. That goes for me too, as I never want to steal anyone else’s teaching materials; I want my students to learn a curriculum that has my personal touch on it. I never want a student to turn in work that isn't theirs just for the sake of doing an assignment because I would rather get to see how they use their individuality in their schoolwork.
If I could fix any three of these issues, I would deal with academic honesty, digital divide, and cyber bullying. For academic honesty, I would teach my students the value of integrity, and how violating the academic honest policy is beyond schoolwork, but an issue of morals. Implementing integrity in everyday activities and encouraging honesty will not only build their characters but improve them as students. For digital divide, I would recognize the diversity in the classroom. Not all students come from a wealthy demographic nor do they have access to technology such as computers outside of the classroom. To solve this, I would never assign a technological assignment for homework; this gives all of the kids an equal playing field when it comes to learning. Finally, for cyberbullying, I would speak to my students about the dangers and downsides to social media. Cyberbullying is a leading cause of teen depression and even suicide. To combat this issue, I would integrate values and morals of kindness and love to one another in the classroom. I would also encourage all of my students to reach out to a teacher or trusted adult when they have an issue with someone online. Cyberbullying isn't a laughing matter; young people can be so cruel and it’s my responsibility as a teacher to not just teach my students academics, but also the value of being kind.
I agree with your plan of action for academic honesty, digital divide, and cyberbullying. In particular for cyberbullying, it is definitely the downfall of social media and can cause unneeded chaos if it gets out of control. The value of being kind, like you mentioned, is a value that we should all instill for the future of tomorrow so issues like cyberbullying can be avoided.
