With my current existing knowledge, I feel prepared to teach Kindergaren, 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade technology standards. These include basic level technology use such as online textbooks, smartboard use, audio recordings, and prezi presentations. I definitely have many more skills to both learn and master, so I don’t feel I would be able to teach 4th grade or higher. For example, on the 4th grade standard list, I think I would need to improve my keyboarding skills in order to be more successful. I hope to improve those skills in this class and give me the confidence needed to use them!
In the CPLAMS toolkit, I liked the Punctuation Play game under the 1st grade math toolkit. The game is designed for kids to play an online soccer game that helps them learn correct punctuation. I would use this in my classroom because it’s interesting and it gets kids excited to learn more about punctuation. As a kid, I loved educational computer games because it got me more excited to learn. When kids have fun, they are more inclined to continue. The more they play, the more they learn.
The newsletter assignment helped me see what having a classroom of my own will really be like. Making up a list of spelling words and giving the parents information about technology in my classroom made it feel more real. Also, it forced me to work on my creativity and design skills, which was needed. Practicing using colors and fun graphics helped me unlock more of my creative side. When I’m a teacher one day, I will feel prepared to write informative and fun newsletters for my students to bring home to their parents.
